McGrath to make the trip to the Euros

The continuing rise of Damien McGrath to the elite level of the game will continue this summer with the north Mayo man whistler heading the European Championships in Poland/Ukraine. McGrath has been appointed to take part in the tournament as an assistant referee which will be another high point to McGrath’s career. Irish people busy making savings plans

A new study by EBS into Irish people’s plans for saving and household budgeting for the year ahead has shown that 18 per cent plan to do a very thorough review, 36 per cent will make a general savings plan while 45 per cent of Irish people have no plans to develop a household budget for the year ahead. The research of the 1,000 people surveyed, also found that of those planning to prepare a budget, more than 50 per cent revealed this was something that they have only started to do since the downturn.

Box-off for Moylette to book place in World Championships

Ray Moylette will face off against Ross Hickey in the National Stadium in Dublin this day week, September 2 for a place in the Irish squad for World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. Moylette, who claimed the European Championship at the light welterweight (65kg) grade, will be looking to defeat Hickey who is currently the Irish senior champion at the same weight. The national organising body decided to have a box-off between the two boxers for a seat on the plane to Azerbaijan because Moylette was injured prior to Irish qualifiers for the tournament, while Hickey was unable to travel to the European Championships, which was won by Moylette.

O’Neill bows out of European Championships

Irish team captain and Paulstown native Darren O'Neill, a silver medal winner at the 2010 European Championships, was knocked out of this year’s European Championships in Turkey after dropping a 17-10 decision to Dmytro Mytrofanov of Ukraine in the middleweight class on Tuesday last.
